Is Parcheesi Rasta?
I don't like to spread gossip about people, even celebrities, who are experiencing an obvious mental health crisis. That said, this is a pretty striking detail in a Daily Beast article about a superhero show actor's exploits:
Then, a conversation about board games allegedly went sideways when, after [NAME] claimed that the board game Parcheesi had Rastafarian roots, the visiting neighbor—who is half-Black—questioned [NAME] as to which sect of the Rastafari movement it originated from.
“At this point, [NAME] explodes and started screaming directly into my face,” the visiting neighbor tells me.
The fact that this anecdote continues with the star of The Flash allegedly flashing a gun to end a dispute about Parcheesi is one thing. But the main question that stands out to me is where exactly someone could get the idea that Parcheesi is Rasta. My best guesses:
Because the board game uses red, green, and yellow pieces, the colors of the Rastafarian flag (ignore the blue ones).
That (per Wikipedia), Parcheesi is based on a historied Indian board game called Pachisi. But apparently it's not the only Pachisi offshoot, there's also Ludo (aka Ludi), which is big in Jamaica. Searching around, one can find many different Jamaican-themed Ludo boards, including custom ones with an explicit Rasta theme.
I don't care either way, I prefer checkers.
